This morning (22nd December 2014) the river Irvine in East Ayrshire has burst its banks, bringing severe flooding to parts of the town of Kilmarnock.
Earlier, 42 were stranded in an ASDA supermarket, and had to be rescued by fire services, after flood water surrounded the building. 40 adults and 2 children were rescued from the store on rigid inflatable rafts.
Rail services have been disrupted, Roads have been closed and homes evacuated. Police have confirmed residents in New Cumnock's Mason Avenue, Mansfield Road and Pathbrae were evacuated from their homes on this morning amid the flooding conditions.
A Met office Yellow warning of rain remains in force until tomorrow afternoon for the following regions Central, Tayside & Fife, North West England, Northern Ireland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde, Wales, Yorkshire & Humber.
