Colorado Flash Flood

Colorado towns and cities have been evacuated as flash flooding continues.

Thousands of people have been evacuated as heavy rain and devastating flash flooding continues in Colorado. Flooding that cut off many people in the Colorado mountains today has caused rivers and creeks to overflow, bursting their banks and forcing thousands of people to evacuate towns and cities.

As the rain continues to fall, two people are know to have died and another is missing. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has said that 'It's got to be the largest storm that I can imagine in the state's history'.

President Barack Obama has approved a federal disaster assistance request, which will release funds to help with emergency protection.

Now, there are new warnings that the rain may not yet be over, Kari Bowen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service said "We're still expecting some flooding to occur, but not quite as bad as the last couple of days in terms of the amount of rain that we've been getting".

Sources say that intermittent rain could continue over the weekend, causing more flooding.
