Storm Emily: Met Office Upgrade Weather Warning To Amber For Scotland And Northern Ireland

The low pressure weather system that will pass the north west of the UK later on Wednesday 18th December, into Thursday 19th of December will bring severe gale force winds and heavy rain to the Highlands & Eilean Siar and Strathclyde areas of Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The Met office have upgraded from a Yellow weather warning to an Amber weather warning for these areas.

The weather warning is in place from 9pm on Wednesday until 8am Thursday.

Gusts of 70 to 80 mph are expected in the affected area, possibly up to 90 mph in some of the more exposed locations in western Scotland and the Western Isles. Such winds will lead to very large waves with some coastal over-topping likely.

There is a possibility of significant disruption to transport and power supplies.
