The Majjistral Park lies in the north-west region of Malta; its name is derived from the Maltese name for north-west region and north-west wind that is one of the dominant winds that blow across the park's open landscape. The park comprises open areas of rocky land (karst) full of low native shrubs and other plants, small patches of fields, a sandy bay with a sand dune, and coastal areas with cliffs, rock debris and clay slopes. The area holds beautiful landscapes and is an ideal site to watch sunsets especially on clear days. Recorded in the park are over 450 species of wild plants including endemic species, and 12 bird species are found nesting. Other wildlife include reptiles and several species of insects. There are also several interesting historical features including unique corbelled stone huts that were in the past used by farmers to store tools and to shelter from the rain. Archaeological remains are also found.
The park organises various activities including walks with different themes (plants, birds, insects...), sunset experiences, night sky watching, snorkeling, kayaking, and volunteering (including tree planting and cleaning). Approximate lengths of walks are 6 Km and along some rough ground. The natural, geological and archaeological heritage features of the Park are set amidst a unique landscape with expansive views of the beautiful north-west and sister island of Gozo.
