Not-for-profit organisation RiverSmart Australia Ltd is the leader of the Macquarie River Trails initiative which now includes themed trails for heritage, nature, local produce, river, fishing, cycling, art and bird watching. The web site, trip planner is also available as a downloadable app for iPhone and androids, although the bird watching trail information is being added to it at present. Glove box guides covering all trails can be downloaded from the web site as well.
This region is about 4-5 hours drive from Sydney, or you can take a short flight to Dubbo the largest town. Dubbo also boasts Taronga Western Plains Zoo as a bonus.
