Travelling on the sea, between Sicily and Africa there is Linosa, called Algusa by Romans, Aethusa by Greeks.
This is just 5 square kilometers of a volcanic island, with the colored houses of the little village set at the foot of four small hills, 195 meters high. The island is surrounded by a crystal blue sea rich in nature and it is covered by lush vegetation.
This is our little island, a small black pearl in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, half Italian and half African. This is where we live, just over 300 people, often we feel ourselves isolated islanders. It can happen, especially in winter, that for bad weather conditions, the ferry connecting the island with Sicily or Lampedusa can't perform its service.
Since it was colonized in 1845, Linosa has made an art of getting by. The people take care of their island, often farmers, but in their free time they become skilled fishermen. Linosa is a unique place in the Mediterranean, absolutely pristine. Tourism is present only during summer, but all seasons have a mild climate. During winter Linosa allows to live the traditions and local culture, it is easy to become familiar with the people, discover their food, the natural treasures as shearwaters that every year come to nest, and to sleep accompanied by their particular melody. Linosa is not an island for everyone, but for those with a spirit of adaptation, love for nature and tranquility, for bird watching, hiking, for the pleasure to meditate, to write, to read and find one's self, especially if accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide.
There are a few shops, and few facilities open only in the summer. Our visitors can choose between the House of the lighthouse or the Blue House in the countryside surrounded by the Mediterranean bush, feeling as at home.
