The 5 buildings of the Riga Central Market pavilions were originally constructed in Vaiņode, Kurzeme, as hangars for German army aircraft – Zeppelins. However the construction of original hangars was modified in order to optimize usage of energy resources and reduce heat loss. Nowadays the halls are 20.5 meters high and 35 meters wide. The area of the biggest pavilion equals to 12 basketball fields or 25 tennis courts.
