Of all the museums and galleries in Oslo, this has to be the most fun! Even from the outside, the gallery’s eye-catching window display of a King and Queen wearing robes made from Absolut Vodka bottles, gives you a feeling of great excitement.
It doesn’t even matter if you don’t drink alcohol, because each installation tells an exciting story relating to a particular collection of mini-bottles. Themes include ‘love’, ‘music’, ‘sport’, and there is even a section devoted to ‘the worst mini-bottles’.
The attention to detail in every room is what makes the Mini Bottle Gallery such a pleasurable experience. From the calming effect of the numerous water features, to the urinal in the men’s toilet, every part of the gallery is thoroughly entertaining. Be sure to look out for the ‘room of horror’ in the basement, it will send a chill down your spine.
It may dawn on you as you walk around the gallery, that it would be a great place to hold a party. Well, that is possible. It is an ideal venue to hold a business lunch, a reunion or even a children’s party. Believe it or not, a child was baptised inside the gallery not so long ago! You can ask at the bar for booking details and prices.
The man behind this fantastic concept gallery is Christian Ringnes. His interest in alcohol is quite natural given that his family were the founders of Ringes Brewery, Norway’s most popular beer. You will see Christian Ringnes in the film that is playing on the ground floor (first floor in Norwegian), in which he explains the story of how he came to collect over 53000 mini-bottles – a world record!
The gallery is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, and the entrance fee is less than a bottle of Chardonnay!
