The Convict Experience Tour is faithfully recreated amongst the historical ruins in this rich cultural landscape. After a 90 minute drive to the Tasman Peninsular, we'll arrive at the historic site to begin a wonderful 5-hour journey back in time. In your own time, with the help of guides, headphones and a map you'll be immersed in the sights, sounds and stories of colonial Van Diemen's Land's notorious penal settlement. Take a harbour cruise and stop off at the Isle of the Dead, the final resting place for more than 1,000 convicts. Enjoy a hearty lunch at the Port Cafe or perhaps the Museum Cafe in the Lunatic Asylum Building.
The Port Arthur Wanderer - on this economical tour, travel with us to a multi-award winning tourist experience and feel the history of Colonial Van Diemen's Land's penal settlement. Only a 90-minute drive through the lush rolling hills of the Tasman Peninsular and we arrive at Port Arthur. There you will have five hours to explore this rich cultural landscape, which is both National and World Heritage listed. A complete experience of the time, you'll explore more than thirty historic buildings and ruins set amongst beautiful and tranquil gardens. To have an overview of significant places on the site you should take the 45-minutes guided introductory tour and the 30-minutes harbour cruise (both wheelchair friendly). Lunch is available (at own expense) at the licensed Port Cafe.
A return coach service for the Port Arthur Transportation ticket, perhaps not for a seven year term, but for a day or few? With so much to do on the Tasman Peninsular this is an economical alternative for those without wheels. Coach transport is available for the 90-minute journey from Hobart to Port Arthur leaving on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8.30am. A return service leaving Port Arthur at 3.15pm is available on these days, with an airport drop off available if required. Pre-booking and payment is essential to secure your seat.
