Rolling down a hill in a giant inflatable ball at OGO Rotorua is a unique New Zealand adventure experience (created by the inventor). At OGO you've got the opportunity to race on the Straight track or try out the world’s longest Sidewinder track. OGO is definitely a must do when visiting Rotorua.
Upon arrival it's obvious that a lot of care and consideration has been put in place to create an exclusive customer experience. There are hot tubs to soak in between and after your rides and the observation deck provides plenty of opportunities for spectators to take some action shots as friends and family roll down the hill....the heated changing rooms and hairdryers are definitely an added bonus. If you visit around spring time you may be lucky enough to see some lambs as the site is surrounded by a working farm.
You might also be lucky enough to meet Andrew, the OGO inventor and hear the story of how the idea of inflatable shoes developed overtime into rolling down a hill in a giant inflatable ball. Andrew was the CEO of Zorb, which is where he first started out with the craziness of ball rolling and it seems OGO now offers longer, bigger and better rides.
When you are changed and ready to go, you are greeted by a driver who chauffeurs you to the top of the hill. It is crazy to think that after such a short drive up you are able to enjoy breath taking views of beautiful Lake Rotorua and Mokoia Island, while 40litres of water (warm in winter, cool in summer) is pumped into your OGO.
The fun really starts with a superman dive to begin your ride. When the door is zipped shut and securely in place you are ready to roll. The water cascades around you as you slip and slide to the bottom usually with a lot of laughter in between. At the end of your ride, you are greeted with a smile and asked to pose for some photos before sliding out feet first. As if the ride wasn’t fun enough, the whole thing is also captured on a Go Pro video camera to relive your great time at OGO again and again.
