Marine Discovery Penzance offer truly unique wildlife sailing adventures around one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country. Our sailing catamaran "Shearwater II" holds twelve passengers - no squashing or overcrowding - and is crewed by a highly experienced and professional skipper and crew. Marine Discovery is the longest established wildlife watching company in Cornwall, so we know where to go looking to give you the chance of finding the animals and birds. What makes West Cornwall so special is the range of species found - trips could encounter various types of dolphin, harbour porpoises, grey seals, a diverse range of seabirds, and during the summer and autumn months giants such as basking sharks and minke whales, as well as the mysterious ocean sunfish. Because Shearwater II is a sailing vessel there it is quieter and steadier than a motor boat, meaning less disturbance to the animals and better encounters, and you know that you have chosen the truly environmentally friendly option.
A large part of Marine Discovery's work is the data we collect on every trip we are out and how we use it to undertake proper research. This is not simply recording sightings, and no other wildlife watching company in the country does this to the same extent, meaning we have extensive data sets for the last ten years, helping us find you the wildlife in different weather and tide conditions (though obviously wildlife being wildlife, we can never guarantee specific sightings!)
But most of all, a voyage with Marine Discovery is an unforgettable ocean adventure.
