The Bean Inn is based on the ground floor of a 7 bedroom popular vegetarian/vegan bed & breakfast in the beautiful St Ives Bay. They are possibly the only vegetarian/vegan restaurant offering overnight accommodation. They also share the space with a local environmental artist Katrina Slack which makes the space particularly interesting and creative. The menu is 100% vegetarian and 95% - 100% vegan. Taking inspiration from all around the world and sourcing locally and seasonally they have a strong environmental ethos too: food miles are minimised by their fruit and veg supplier The Allotment Deli who use local allotments and small holders. Bread is either homemade or bought at the local farmers’ market along with speciality olives. Herbs and edible flowers are grown in the restaurant’s gardens.
Although popular with the locals, the restaurant really begins to pack out from Easter onwards when the holiday makers arrive. A real mix of families, foreign travellers and the regular veggie vegan crowd seek them out. Their eldest regular customer is nearly 90 and they also have some regular babies/toddlers.
The restaurant is run by Paula Richards and Kate Horrill who are both dedicated vegetarians and cooking is their passion. Although neither have been professionally trained, they seem to be doing something right with an excellent reputation for great food and stunning presentation.
