Castle Drogo was built for retail tycoon Julius Drewe by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Lutyens designed a medieval looking castle complete with portcullis, arrow slits and a flat roof. But this design led to major water penetration problems from early on in its’ construction, and is now undergoing a major conservation project that will last until 2017.
