This handsome old Inn has a warm welcome for all and from stepping inside, the bare boarded, earthy hued bar/dining area is the perfect setting for richly textured fabrics, wool and leather chairs and sofas, painted tables and beautiful period pieces. Family portraits as well as vintage pictures of The George itself adorn the walls and in the winter months, the roaring log fire in the inglenook famously favoured by Hilare Bellow will draw you in. Four hand pumped local real ales, along with over 20 wines by the glass including Champagne, Prosecco and local English wines are paired with a wide selection of local juices, not to mention seasonal favourites as Summer and Winter Pimms, Mulled Wine and house specialities for example the landlady's favourite - a Gin and sparkling Elderflower Cocktail. If you are peckish, look to the Chalkboards for the day's local and seasonal dishes, all of which are sourced within a 30 mile radius of The George. Dishes such as locally landed Lemon Sole, Rye Bay scallops, slow-roasted Pork Belly with Bramley apple spiced compote, Chargrilled lamb rump with minted rösti or one of our delicious Chargrilled Rib Eye Steaks, cut to size and order.
Finally, don’t forget to leave room for our lovely homemade puddings, especially our ever changing “George Chocolate Loveliness” or our Sussex Cheeseboard, served with South Downs Honey, homemade chutney and four delicious local cheeses from Kent and Sussex.
We also now have four boutique bed and breakfast rooms so that you can stay for longer and explore this lovely area.
