Amhuinnsuidhe Castle stands guard at the edge of Europe - Amhuinnsuidhe Castle is the most westerly castle in Great Britain. It remains a stronghold of the Gaelic language and Celtic culture. With its remote yet tranquil setting, it feels a million miles away from anywhere - yet can be easily accessed from any location in Europe. Built in 1867 for the Earl of Dunmore, the imposing Scottish Baronial-style castle stands on the north-western shores of the Isle of Harris, offering breathtaking views across the Atlantic waters of the Sound of Taransay to neighbouring uninhabited islands. Beyond its own hillside gardens, the Castle is surrounded by 55,000 glorious acres of Trust-owned land.
Amhuinnsuidhe Castle offers luxury accommodation and fine dining, conference facilities, sporting activities which include fishing, rough shooting for grouse, clay pigeon shooting and deer stalking.
With so much to see on the Isle of Harris what better way to finish the day than to sit in any one of the public areas of the castle or indeed your room and look out over the Atlantic with a traditional scotch whiskey or a glass of wine before sitting down to a four course evening meal in our very elegant dining room.
