New Orleans' cemeteries are also the final resting place of famous and infamous characters alike: Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, World Chess Champion Paul Morphy, and Civil Rights leader Homer Plessy, just to name a few.
Since 1974, Save Our Cemeteries (SOC) has been protecting, preserving, promoting and protecting the historic cemeteries of New Orleans through restoration, education, and advocacy. Programs include restoration workshops, lectures, cemetery tours, an annual cemetery seminar, various fundraisers throughout the year, and primarily, advocating for and restoring abandoned tombs. SOC is the only cemetery non-profit organization in the City.

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 (in the Garden District)

Tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes
St. Louis Cemetery No.1 (near the French Quarter)
Tours are conducted at 10:00 a.m.,11:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 10:00 a.m on Sunday.
$20 per person. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Cemetery tours are SOC's largest fundraising activity and provide almost 100% of the funding for SOC's Restoration Program.
