Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Museum interprets the rich history of the Erie Canal by showcasing the National Register 1850 Weighlock building, the only remaining weighlock building in the United States, and the Frank Buchanan Thomson, a full size replica line boat in its lock chamber. An education gallery and changing exhibition gallery along with the attached Syracuse Heritage Area Visitor Center combine to give one a true sense of the importance of the Erie Canal in the history of the United states.
